How To Be A Fashion Designer

Learn how you can become a fashion designer and create your own fashion clothes for free

All those beautiful models on TV, magazines, pictures. Sometimes it's depressing to watch so perfect bodies and faces. But, I'm not perfect, you are not perfect. Nobody is! Trust me, Photoshop can do a lot for beauty. Nobody will design specially for you, but you.

I will teach you how you can be a real fashion designer even if you never studied fashion or design. You don't even have to be a good illustrator. Surprised?

Just follow a few steps:

1. Define what you like to wear
   I'm sure you have a favorite dress, shirt, trousers, bag, hat, necklace... Write down 5 pieces and the reasons why you like to wear them. Those reasons will be your fashion designing rules.
2. Favorite colors, patterns
   Your life should be joyful and colors, design motives play a big role in that. Find samples of your favorite ones in fashion magazines or on the Internet and print them out. You will need them.
3. Make a doll
   Funny and interesting. Find and print out your picture with whole figure. May be, in a swimming dress.
4. Create a fashion combination
   Find pictures in magazines or on the Internet of some fashion clothes (according to your fashion rules!) you would like to have. Cut them out carefully strictly by the edges. Put them over your picture to see how would you look like in them. Ignore the difference in weights.
5. Combination in right colors, patterns
   If you wish to have e.g. dress in special color, put that dress you recently cut out on a white paper. Write edges with a pen around it and cut out again that dress. Now, you will use the rest of the paper. Put under that dress shaped hole the color you want. Use again a pen to draw edges inside the hole and cut out now the dress from a color paper and put it on your picture. You will be in a new dress.
6. Advanced step: Adding of different details
   If you are better with drawing you can do 4. step differently. Find a picture of a dress you like and prepare a transparent foil (not for cooking!). Put it over your picture and start drawing a dress you would like to have on the foil counting on your body shape. The picture of a dress you found will use you just as a model. Draw any new detail you like: different sleeves, length, collar etc. Finally, put under that foil a paper with wanted color or pattern and you will see your new dress in a favorite pattern. The same procedure you can repeat with any piece of wardrobe.

So, if you follow these 5 - 6 steps you can create any fashion combination you like quickly and easily. And, if you have more drawing skills you can be more creative with details. More you will practice, more successful you will be. Now you are a real fashion designer (beginner!). All the rest depends on your tailor!
